This assignment is a writing task that asks you to summarise and evaluate a prescribed academic
journal article in 500 words. Your prescribed journal article is identified under ‘Essential Text and
	Materials’ below.
Writing a journal article evaluation requires you to read a text in detail, and to also read other
related texts, so that you can present an informed and reasonable critique. You will present the
strengths and weaknesses of the prescribed text in your assignment. This will require an
understanding not just the content of the text, but also an understanding of a text’s purpose, the
intended audience and why it is structured the way it is.
The following structure is to be used for your Journal Article Evaluation:
	Assignment cover page
	Introduction (approximately 50 words):
Introduce the reader to your Journal Article Evaluation by stating the purpose of the task.
Announce the author(s) of the text and the title and briefly state the topic. Conclude the
introduction with a statement of your evaluation of the text. This can be a positive or
negative evaluation or, as is usually the case, a mixed response.
Summary of Prescribed Text (approximately 100 words):
Present a summary of the key points in the text along with a limited number of examples.
Briefly explain the author’s purpose/intentions throughout the text, their key findings, and
	how the text is organised.

writing style/text structure. Include other sources to support your evaluation (remember to
cite the sources using APA 6 th in-text referencing).
	Conclusion (approximately 50 words):
This is a short paragraph in which you re-state your overall understanding of the text and
	briefly present recommendations.

A business report is an academic text written to not only communicate information but also to
analyse and discuss that information. Writing business reports during your tertiary studies
strengthens the written communication skills essential for your future career.
Acting as a management consultant for an Australian hotel, research and write a business
report that discusses the benefits and challenges of teamwork in the hospitality industry.
In your report, you can indicate the structure clearly by using sub-headings for each section. Each
section has a distinct purpose. The following structure is to be used for your Business Report:
	Assignment cover page
	Executive Summary
An Executive Summary is a short summary of the entire report, and is commonly about
10% of the report’s word count. This section is not included in the word count of the
	assignment.
	Table of Contents
This lists the main sections and sub-sections of the report, with the page numbers on
which each section starts justified to the left of the page. Ensure you use a table or
template built into your word processing software for professional presentation. The Table
of Contents is not included in the word count of the assignment.
	Introduction (approximately 100 words)
The introduction starts with a thesis statement to capture the major argument of the report.
The purpose of the report is stated next, followed by an outline of what will be covered in
the report (this is called the ‘scope’ of the assignment).
	Body sections (approximately 1,000 words)
This is the main part of your report. Firstly, analyse the benefits of teamwork in hotels,
and then analyse the challenges of teamwork in hotels. Ensure you support your writing
with academic references and industry sources where appropriate.
Conclusion and Recommendations (approximately 100 words)
