Exam Questions ‐ Essay topics (choose any 3)
Do not use personal pronouns in any of the essays
    1. It’s all about Imagination
Imagination is more important than knowledge (Albert Einstein)
We need to think more seriously than ever about how we encourage people to focus on productive
outcomes that advance and unite civilization‐peaceful imaginations that seek to “minimize
alienation and celebrate interdependence rather than self‐sufficiency, inclusion rather than
exclusion,” openness, opportunity, and hope rather than limitation, suspicion, and grievance
(Friedman). Discuss how a global business could harness these ideas to create a better world for all
countries especially the countries that did not benefit from globalization.
    2. Globalization and Change

Globalisation is all about change.  ‘One good example is worth a thousand theories.’ I believe that is
true.  Indeed, people do not change only when they must: They also change when they see that
others‐like themselves – have changed and flourished. Or as Michael Mandelbaum also points out,
‘People change as a result of what they notice, not just what they are told’ – especially when what
they notice is someone just like them doing well(Friedman 2006, p. 629). Discuss yourself in relation
to the above quote and how you see the changes that you must make in order to do well in a global
digital economy. (Do not use personal pronouns in this essay)

    3. A New World
Friedman states that ‘If you believe human wants and needs are infinite,’ said Andresses, ‘then there
are infinite industries to be created, infinite businesses to be started and infinite jobs to be done,
and the only limiting factor is human imagination’(Frideman 2006, p. 267). Discuss and give an
example of new industries and new jobs to illustrate your answer.

    4. Reinvention

The Bally case study was an example of a business that had to recreate itself completely to meet the
demands of the new global business order.  Discuss the concept of reinvention of companies and
give one example of a successful company that has recreated itself completely in the current global
market place. Remember that there are historical, geographical, political, technological and at times
religious reasons to be addressed in this essay.  The company can be from anywhere in the world.

    5. The Asian Century

Scholars and businesses are talking about the next 100 years being the Asian Century or more
precisely the Chinese Century or the ChinIndia century.  Do you think that China and other parts of
    Page 4 of 4
Asia will be the leaders of the business world by the end of this century?  Discuss and you can either
agree or disagree with the above statement but you must justify your answer.
    6. We Think

Watch the following video by Charles Leadbeater of ‘We Think’ ‐ https://youtu.be/qiP79vYsfbo.
(search YouTube for We Think by Charles Leadbeater).
In the video he states ‘how do we earn a living when everyone is freely sharing their ideas … in the
past you were what you owned, now you are what you share’. Discuss this quotation in the context
of social media and global business. Choose a business case study to illustrate your ideas.
