    There are two datasets available on the VLE, “fatality.dta” and “mcas.dta”
    The fatality data are for the “lower 48” U.S. states (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), annually for 1982 through 1988.  The traffic fatality rate is the number of traffic deaths in a given state in a given year, per 10,000 people living in that state in that year. Traffic fatality data were obtained from the U.S. Department of Transportation Fatal Accident Reporting System. 
    The beer tax is the tax on a case of beer, which is an available measure of
    state alcohol taxes more generally.  The drinking age variables are binary variables indicating whether the legal drinking age is 18, 19, or 20. 
    The two binary punishment variables describe the state’s minimum sentencing requirements for an initial drunk driving conviction: “Mandatory jail?” equals one if the state requires jail time and equals zero otherwise, and “Mandatory community service?” equals one if the state requires community service and equals zero otherwise.  Total vehicle miles travelled annually by state was obtained from the Department of Transportation.  Personal income was obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the unemployment rate was obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    The mcas data is the district-wide averages for public elementary school districts in Massachusetts in 1998.  The test score is taken from the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test, administered to all fourth graders in Massachusetts public schools in the spring of 1998. 
    The test is sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education and is mandatory for all public schools.  The data analysed here are the overall total score, which is the sum of the scores on the English, Math, and Science portions of the test. Data on the student-teacher ratio, the percent of students receiving a subsidized lunch and on the percent of students still learning English are averages for each elementary school district for the 1997-1998 school year and were obtained from the Massachusetts department of education.  Data on average district income were obtained from the 1990 U.S. Census.
     
    1.      Please pick ONE dataset, analyse it using Stata and write a 1,500-word report.
    2.      If you choose the mcas data, please also provide comparative analysis with the results from the CalSchool data.
    3.      Make sure your Stata output are presented clearly and in an appropriate format in your report (see lecture notes in week 6)
    4.      Please also email me your do file with all the Stata command lines, when you submit your report on Turnitin
    5.      Make sure your report is clearly structured, with Introduction, Analysis, and Conclusion section where appropriate.
    6.      Please provide clear description of your data before you proceed with analysis
