    The Assignment:
    You have been asked to prepare a briefing note for the Minister of Environment and Climate
    Change, the Hon. Catherine McKenna in your new role as an expert Environmental Impact
    Assessor with the Government of Canada. As you know the Minister has assembled an expert
    panel to conduct a review of the environmental processes at the Federal level in Canada. You
    will prepare a briefing note addressed to the “Minister of the Environment and Climate Change”
    outlining how you believe that the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (2012) can be
    improved upon and issues are most important for the Minister and the review panel to consider.
    You should address at least 3 main points and provide a rationale explaining your opinion.
    This assignment should be done individually and must be written in your “own words”.
    The Details:
    Value: 15% of your final grade in the course
    Length: 3 to 4 pages double spaced (no smaller than 10 font please)
    Submit: No later than October 15th at 11 am via Blackboard in WORD Format
    You must use the “standard format” for section headings set for this assignment as outline
    below:
    TITLE (follow examples provided for formatting)
    PURPOSE (2 or 3 sentences)
    CURRENT SITUATION (3 or 4 sentences)
    BACKGROUND (no more than a page)
    RECOMMENDATIONS (major component of document)

    A good briefing note submitted for this assignment:
     Is presented in the prescribed format with appropriate section headings;
     Presents concise and clear ideas;
     Is easy for the reader to follow;
     Provides important points including rationale for the author’s opinions; and
     Demonstrates solid understanding of the subject material.
    Please note: there is no “right” answer to this assignment; it is evaluated upon what your key
    points are and how you defend them – demonstrating a clear understanding of the material.
